First off, a power washer is a simple machine that does just what the name implies. It pressurizes water. It is important, however, to know how much pressure and which spray width is best for each job you are planning.

Naturally cost is an important factor to consider. An inexpensive power washer purchased from a national home center will normally run between $200 to $400 or more. Better units may cost two to four times that amount. If you purchased a machine how often would you use it? If no more than once or twice a year, it probably makes more sense to rent a professional pressure washing business.

Another consideration is your personal safety. Do you really want to climb on your roof to pressure wash the clogged gutters? How do you feel about standing on your roof as you pressure wash the mildew off the shingles? Do you even want to climb a ladder in order to clean the top half of your two story house? Remember, you will be dragging a hose behind you that is filled with pressurized water.

There is no question that power washing is one of the most effective ways to keep your property clean and sparkling. The question is, do you want to buy your own or rent the equipment? There are arguments to be made for both. If you only plan on using it once, it will better serve you to rent one rather than buy it.
